Slim has a new song available for listening on GarageBand and ILike. The problem is he can't come up with an appropriate title and asks your help in naming it. Give it a listen and contact Slim with your catchy and creative suggestion for a name. It's interim title on both sites is "Scenes."

Happy to note that the new song is finally finished. Titled Around The World Oh Yeah, this new song pays homage to the type of poppy guitar songs Slim used to love when a teenager in the 1960s. It's not at all profound, or is it.......? Listen on Slims MySpace page. Also available for listening on GarageBand and ILike.

Slim will be shifting much of what's posted her to his Blog, but this page still has some use.

In a small effort to carry on tradition, Slim has started a new blog aptly titled Slims Desert Blog. The style and tone roughly follows that of his sister Liz' Southern Highlands Cam blog.
December 11, 2008
Slim has lost his older sister, Elisabeth (Liz) Donovan, who passed away two days ago. Liz was simply an extraordinary person, one who touched the lives of everyone she came in contact with. She was also one of the smartest people I've ever known. No, make that the smartest.

There is little I could write here that would do her justice. She was a veteran news researcher for The Washington Post and The Miami Herald, and was a member of teams which were awarded Pulitzer prizes at both newspapers. There is a scene in All the President's men which I always watch with delight - a Post researcher hands Robert Redford (Bob Woodward) a photograph which provides a breakthrough in the quest to "follow the money." That was Liz - they even dressed the actress in Liz's style, particularly the glasses on the top of her head. That was my sister.
And, she had the great foresight to send her young, immature bother Alan copies of the English versions of Rubber Soul, Revolver, and The Who's My Generation from England in 1966, where she studied at the LSE. Little did she know what an immense influence she would have on my life. She taught me many things, and helped me in numerous ways. When I was a (literally) starving graduate student on an internship in Louisville and living in a $10/week flophouse that I couldn't afford, she sent me money. Liz had an innate curiosity about the world and never could resist checking out a place or thing that seemed interesting. She was the cornerstone of our family and has left an enormous void in our lives which can never be filled.
The Miami Herald published her obituary today. As did The Washington Post.
Joel Achenbach of The Post wrote a very fine remembrance of Liz. Many wonderful comments have been received from her friends and colleagues on her guestbook. Many of her fellow bloggers have written about Liz: Julie Domel, Rick of the South Florida Daily Blog, Bill Lucey of The Morning Delivery, All Things Amy, Derek of The Scoop, Bob Norman in The Daily Pulp, Mark Schaver of Depth Reporting, Sheila Lennon of The Providence Journal, Ian Lind of Hawaii, J''s Scratchpad, and many tributes on her Facebook Page. The ParkLibrary site has put together a compilation of stories and personal tributes to Liz from her colleagues, which I know would have pleased her enormously. Liz would have, of course, done a much better job of compiling such things. Speaking for the Donovan family, I want to thank all of you who by your comments and remembrances have helped make her passing perhaps just a little bit less painful.

From her home in Murphy, NC (above) Liz maintained two wonderful websites, which I hope continue to live on, as well as a wonderfully personal account of the tumultuous year of 1968, which she was not able to finish, though she posted her last blog shortly before she entered the hospital the last time. All can be viewed here. That terrible year ended on a note of genuine hopefulness with the Apollo 8 astronauts circling the moon and reading from the book of Genesis. Sadly, I don't feel such hopefulness as 2008 comes to an end. Will the circle be unbroken......

With the arrival of colder weather, Slim has been spending some time burrowing into his past. From an assortment of cassette tapes, Slim has unearthed a startling number of old songs which have nearly been forgotten. These demos are primitive my today's standards, but they offer a window into the creative process of a master songwriter.
Called " Lost Treasures - The Living Room Tapes", some songs will be made available to the public over the next months. Historians should contact Slim for special access, commentary, and historical perspective.
Slim in Washington, DC - mid 1990s
The first of these songs, with a few comments by Slim:
Winter Song (click to listen). This song dates from the mid-90s. I think it was written on a cold, cloudy, and lonely Thanksgiving Day. I remember thinking at the time that the song was some kind of breakthrough - to what, I don't know. To me, it had a kind of a Disney cartoon feel, and I had the image of it being song by a small and very adorable pig.

Slim is intensely lobbying for the position of Troubadour Laureate. Please contact your elected representatives to voice your support. Slim promises to write pretty good songs to chronicle the Obama era.

Almost a week till the election.....holding one's breath. Beware of voter suppression...
Slim has a new song for his fans - plus the beginnings of a long-awaited new album, which will be titled "Stoney Lonesome." Click here for more information and to listen to Slims newest material, including You'd Come See About Me - already a classic!

Slim doesn't know where to begin after a 2-month layoff from his news posts - the election, the financial crisis, etc. Exciting and depressing times coinciding. And we're not even mentioning Sarah Palin here, mainly because she's not worth mentioning.
Slim also has a few pictures to share with everyone - from his just-completed trip to Rochester. Note the photo of Slim by the street sign - Stoney Lonesome Road. Slim is pleased to announce that this will be the title of his next album - hopefully due sometime in 2009 if he finds the inspiration.
Slim fans can look forward to 2009...perhaps a song is here as
well....thumbnails can be found below. Click on the picture to see huge

Rochester Slim is coming to Rochester radio - via WDYN, independent radio broadcasting worldwide on the Web. If the kind folks at the station haven't yet taken a baseball bat to Slims CD, fans can hear it being played on the air - Slim recommends that you tune it around 3am to hear cuts from "Tales from California" - Slims recent CD smash.

In early September, Slim will also be heard as one of WDYN's "featured artists" - which will include an interview with Slim. Tune in to find out when Slims interview will be broadcast.

Slim has posted a new song exclusive on MySpace. Titled Blues for Mathias Popkin, the song is a fantasy based upon the 1940 film classic The Shop Around the Corner. Film fans may recall that Mathias Popkin was the fictional boyfriend that Jimmy Stewart invented for Margaret Sullaven.
Margaret Sullaven sadly committed suicide in 1960; two of her children also took their own lives.
On a lighter note, please join Slim in celebrating the arrival of the Summer Solstice, which takes place at 4:59 PDT today.

Rocco Mediate - Peace, brother. And thanks for a wonderful run at the title. That was the best U.S. Open ever.....you went head-to-head with the best for 91 holes.

The Slim family decided to put our money where our mouths are, to talk the talk, and walk the walk. Way back in the early 1970s, The Edgar Winter Band told us to "Save Our Planet." That was, and is, a great song, BTW. So, we've taken a small step and purchased a Honda Civic Hybrid. So far, the mileage is impressive. It also features low emissions, and comes with a $1,050 tax credit. Act fast, they are hard to find these days....Mrs. Slim loves her new car, as you can see.

Less than 170 days to go until the election. Bush still has time to do all kinds of incredible damage.....luckily we have folks like Keith Olbermann calling him out. Keith's latest "special comment", lambasts the president for, among other things, giving up "golf" as a gesture of support for servicemen and women serving in Iraq.
View the video at Slims Myspace page - it's worth watching.

Slim finally has another new song for his myriad of fans worldwide. "California is for Surfing" was slightly inspired by "Connecticut is for Fucking" by Jesus H Christ and the 4 Housemen of the Apocalypse.

This is another large MP3 file, so to conserve space here, fans can listen to the song on Slims MySpace page.

Slim can now also be found, albeit in a modest way, on Facebook and Ilike. This is all part of our constant attempts to keep you - the public - with all the necessary tools to make informed choices regarding your musical heroes.
Former Governor Elliot Spitzer busted as a result of the Patriot Act? Is this a police state now or what? People, we have some serious damage from the last 7 plus years to repair, so we better all get off our butts and get Mr. Obama (or Mrs. Clinton) in office asap....

935 Lies. Big surprise, eh? President George W. Bush and seven of his administration's top officials, including Vice President Dick Cheney, National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice, and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, made at least 935 false statements in the two years following September 11, 2001, about the national security threat posed by Saddam Hussein's Iraq. Read the report: www.publicintegrity.org/WarCard/

Slim has finally finished a new song - Here Comes Summer Slims first song of 2008. Well, it's been a pretty chilly winter in Palm Springs, and this song is an attempt to bring some warmth into the picture.
January 9, 2008
Slim is enjoying the interesting times in which we live as we head into the election season. It's of particular interest to see the pundits and pollsters perform oh so badly, as they lurch from "the story' to something completely different and then back again. Oh well....the last time I checked, this country and our government belonged to the people.
December 18, 2007
Happy holidays from Slim, who wishes you an excellent 2008. And remember, we must continue to be vigilant - though Billo has declared victory in the War on Christmas, the war, like the others, goes on....
October 26, 2007
A new song, Driving to Orgasm, is here and on Slims Music page...which also has a brief explanation of the whys and hows.....
October 25, 2007
Well, Slim has returned from a very interesting and enjoyable trip back to Rochester. And, he did take the chance to visit the site of the original Woodstock concert, a place he hasn't seen since those few days way back in August, 1969.
And here are a few more pictures of the area around Rochester, Ontario, and Sodus, NY.....

A new version of an old song, She's Still with Me, Still, is now available, done in a kind of western swing style.
Legendary musician Paul Simon appeared on Capitol Hill today to speak out on President Bush's veto of SCHIP legislation that would dramatically expand health care for children in working class families.
Simon, who appeared with Democratic congressional leaders and health care activists, called Bush's veto a "heartless act," and said that members of Congress who vote to override Bush's opposition will count it among the "proudest days of your life."
And on the Iraq front:
In a sweeping indictment of the four-year effort in Iraq, the former top commander of American forces there called the Bush administration's handling of the war "incompetent" and said the result was "a nightmare with no end in sight."
Lt. Gen. Ricardo S. Sanchez, who retired in 2006 after being replaced in Iraq after the Abu Ghraib prisoner abuse scandal, blamed the Bush administration for a "catastrophically flawed, unrealistically optimistic war plan" and denounced the current addition of American forces as a "desperate" move that would not achieve long-term stability.
...."There has been a glaring and unfortunate display of incompetent strategic leadership within our national leaders," he said, adding that civilian officials have been "derelict in their duties" and guilty of a "lust for power."

Slim has finally finished work on his redesigned website, quite an achievement since Slim knows virtually nothing about this kind of stuff....
Slim now has four weeks off from work and hopes to create some new recordings while he chills out. Part of this time will be spent back in Rochester seeking inspiration and renewal....another part will include some days lounging along the shores of the mighty Pacific Ocean.
Slim is also recovering nicely from surgery to repair some parts of his body that haven't been working in top form lately.
